Jeremy Lin subscription box benefiting Jeremy Lin Foundation

Saturday, January 31, 2015

Jeremy Lin, a NBA guard, currently at the Lakers, is partnering up with Quarterly to create a quarterly subscription box to benefit the Jeremy Lin Foundation.

About the foundation:

The box is to focus on items that help Jeremy Lin get ready for a game, both physically and mentally.  This maybe the workout box that I have been waiting for, where it has real substance versus bunch of samples that retailers are giving out at races and other sporting event already.

Check out what Jeremy Lin himself says about what he is curating for the box:

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Quarterly is having a warehouse sale marking a lot of their boxes 50% off for $25/box, with $8 shipping. Generally their shipping is included with the $50 order.  So this is not exactly 50% off... more like 34% off.  Still a good deal.

My favorite boxes from available sales are:

1. Sun Box from Cool Hunting: I love any kind of solar items

2. GIRL box by Pharrell Williams: this box has a lot of one of a kind items

3. Expand you Readerly Horizons box from Book Riot: I love this subscription in general with the "insider's" knowledge to the author's thoughts.

What is your favorite? Are you going to order any?

Ohio Box - Modest Box

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

I love local boxes, and they are just so special.  I was about to order the Modest Box, named after the opposite of BIG box to stand for modest local shops, is an curated box Ohio themed box, but didn't With the modest box, there are three options:
  1. Local Love Box: $39/month
  2. T-shirt box: $56/month
  3. The Big Box: $89/month (gender specific) - this one is funny since in an interview with the founder of the box they called it the "modest" box because they wanted to be the opposite of "BIG"

Regardless of the name, all the boxes seem really interesting, especially the Big Box being gender specific.  It is probably on the cheaper side for "male" specific lifestyle boxes.  Also when I traveled through Ohio, I saw one of the most creative T-shirt designs as well, and I can't wait to see what they will include in the T-shirt boxes.

I ended up not ordering the box because of the $8 flat shipping rate in addition to the monthly subscription price.  While I know these small shops do have to pay a lot for shipping, it seems expensive to add $8 for shipping on top of $39, making the box $47/month, or basically putting the Big Box at almost $100.  Does seem a little steep - unless they knock it out of the park, which is very hard for smaller shops because everyone's base cost is so much higher.

So I will think over this again before ordering...

svbscription 50% off plus $100 credit

Monday, January 26, 2015

Svbscription, a luxury high end clothing, accessories and homewares for men, is on sale for 50% off on Gilt.  This subscription service use to charge a set amount for box, and you keep everything in there, see my previous posts on costs and items in the box here, and see previous sales from the company here.   However, it appears that they recently changed their model to a stylist model where they will hand pick items based on your answer to some questions, and they will send the items to you for review.  You get to keep and only pay for the items you want.  It also looks like they got rid of the women's subscription.

The current offer on Gilt is $50 for a one box and $100 credit for the items in the box.  Gilt is also offering an winter sale for additional 25% off one purchase with code JAN25 (up to Jan 31, 2015), making your box only $50 $37.50.

Their last men's box was on of my favorite, I am sad they got rid of their old model and went to this new one... this is what they had in them:

Cuisine Cube is 43% off

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Cuisine Cube, a $34.99/month artisanal & gluten-free full size food delivery subscription, is on sale at Groupon for $19.99.  Their price drops down to $29.99/month for a 6 month subscription.  They only have one offer on the site, which is $19.99 for $34.99 value that you can use towards a one month, three months or six months subscription.

The Groupon offer would make your subscription:
  • $34.99 $19.99 for 1 month
  • $98.97 $63.98 for 3 months = $21.33/month
  • $179.94 $144.95 for 6 months = 24.16/month

Not one of my favorite Groupon deals, this give you no incentive to try it for longer, however, good enough for you to try it for one month.  I take it Cuisine Cube would hope you are addicted after one month.  Although for me, generally I don't get addicted to a subscription until after 3 months.

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE impressive customer service

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

While I was annoyed with my yet again missing item in my POPSUGAR MUSTHAVE subscription (I have two subscriptions to POPSUGAR this month - one was missing the description card - not a big deal, the other one was missing the Manduka hand towel).  I looked up POPSUGAR's policy for missing items.  On their website it states:

So if you are missing an item, it is smart to get to them immediately!  And you better not be on vacation or away for a period of time where you cannot check your box...because you may be $&*^ out of luck.

I emailed them via their CONTACT US page, and immediately I received an email confirmation stating that my inquiry is in process.  Then to my surprise, less than 10 minutes later, I receives an email saying my inquiry is resolved and the missing items are on their way. IMPRESSIVE! This does make me a POPSUGAR FAN!  See the email chain below - mostly for the speed of the response:

Best Food/Snack Subscription Boxes

Monday, January 19, 2015

With so many delicious subscription boxes out there, how do you know which is for you? Here are my top pics:

1. OrangeGlad: for all the sweetness in you, this is a great box filled with 5 sweets from around the United States for $21.95.  Price drops down to $19.95/month with a 6 month pre-paid subscription.  Their curation is great, and they always seem to be able to include hard to find local favorites!!!!  For the ladies - OrangeGlad + the HelloFlo subscription = all we need to get us through the month.

 2. Graze: 4 natural-treats every month for $6.99/month delivered to your home or office.  This one seems to be a gentleman's favorites.  They tell me it is convenient and they don't have to think about office snacking with the Graze box.

3. Mantry: this subscription is in a league of its own with its handcrafted wooden box of 6 full-size artisan food products for $75/month.  I love the box it comes in, not to mention the food items.  It is as if a personal shopper went to William-Somona, WholeFoods and Dean & DeLuca to curate a box just for me every month.

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE January 2015 Review

Thursday, January 15, 2015

POPSUGAR MUSTHAVE is $39.99/month subscription (shipping included) if lifestyle products for women, and one my my favorite.

One of the most amazing thing about the POPSUGAR box is that every month I open it, all the products are always perfectly fit into their box - do they pick products based on fit as well? Sometimes I feel like that is how it works for them when they get a few hundred products to pick from.

This month, I am missing the explanation cards. Oh well - the least important part of the box.

I am very excited for eQua hand towel because I do hot yoga, and I was wanting to buy one.  Value $16.

Ultra Repair Cream by First Aid Beauty, value $20.   This cream appear to be all the rage these days, so I am excited to try it.

Ice Water Eyes by ToGoSpa eye mask 3 pack.  I love all eye masks, and will try these ones. Value $12.50.

Keep Cup, value $30.  This is one of my favorite items in the box, and I started using it immediately.  It is good for the environment, and apparently the first barista approved to go cup.

Jack + Lucy beanie.  This is my least favorite item in the box. I think last January the box came with Jack + Lucy gloves, maybe i can put to together as a set and give it to someone as a gift. I can't find this online, so I cannot determine the value of this item.

Empire, the fox show, themed Skin Jewel tattoos, valued $30.

Nature Valley Protein Granola, value $3.68.

This is one of my favorite boxes so far. I love most of the items, and the value of the approximately $132, I would say it is pretty good.
